Christmas at the O.K. Corral - SUCESS!!

My first graders did a FABULOUS job Tuesday night in Christmas at the O.K. Corral.  I am sooooo proud of them!
We had almost 200 Cowboys and Cowgirls there!  Everyone had a "Rootin', Tootin' time"!!
Special thanks to all the parents & teachers who helped with the costumes, set, and rehearsal!  We could not have done it without you!!

The Candy Cane Kid, Bubble Gum Bart, and Rosie the Reindeer, chillin' after the show!

Here is a video of the final song - Christmas Is O.K. It isn't great quality, it was taken with my husband's camera from the sound booth. But, you can get the idea!!

DVDs are still available for order! They are $15.

March from the Nutcracker

This week in Music class we have been learning about the Nutcracker ballet!  Here is Mrs. Grigbsy's Kindergarten class doing a movement activity to March from the Nutcracker!  The filming is HORRIBLE.  But, you can get the idea.  The song has 3 sections:  A, B, & C.  We did a different movement on each section.  The song's form is A B A C A B A.

This weekend at Gardner Auditorium in Russellville, Arkansas!!

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for kids.  This is an AWESOME production and would be a wonderful experience for your family!

Peter Tchaikovsky

The Musician of the Month for December is:
Peter Tchaikovsky

Peter Tchaikovsky was a composer from Russia.  He lived from 1840 to 1893.  He wrote lots of music.  His ballets were some of his most popular.  Swan Lake is a well known and beloved ballet.

But, The Nutcracker Ballet is the most performed ballet. It is performed many, many times every holiday season.

Oops!

Today during a first grade class, I noticed some kids weren't participating in the super fun beanie baby activity.  They were all staring and pointing at the ceiling.  So, I joined them and saw this . . .

Oh, wait.  Maybe you can't see it.  Let me zoom in a little.

I can honestly say in 13 years THAT has never happened with 1st graders!
(Oh, did I mention I have 14 feet ceilings???)
So, of course, the only possible way to get it down was to turn on the fan!!!!
Ahhhhh.  The fun of elementary music!!  :D

Louis Armstrong

November is here!  First grade is hard at work on their Christmas Program.  So, only Kindergarten will have a Musician of the Month.

So, this month, Kindergarten is learning about Louis Armstrong!
Louis Armstrong is a Jazz singer and Trumpet player.

We are learning about Jazz music, "scat" singing, the trumpet, and the Brass family of instruments!

Watch Louis sing Dinah below.  Don't forget to listen for the "scat" singing!!

Eric Whitacre

Miss Yerina is currently teaching most of my classes. She has chosen Eric Whitacre as the October Musician of the Month.

Eric Whitacre is a Choral conductor

and a composer.

This month we are learning about what a conductor does, what a choir is, and listening to several songs that Eric Whitacre has written.

This week we listened to The Panther and The Cow.  We made a cow in class!

He has created 2 Virtual Choirs by combining videos of almost 200 people (submitted online) singing one of his songs!  Pretty cool!
