Centers!

This week in music we are having Centers!  First graders have waited ALL YEAR for centers.  They are one of the most fun (and relaxing) things we do all year.  Here are a few pictures from this week.  In each center, the kids get to explore and create their own music and art work.  They stay in each center for 10 minutes, and them rotate on to the next center.  No one gets bored!

This week in Music - First Grade!

It's May!  May is a fun month in Music because we can start to relax and let our hair down!  Besides, its almost SUMMER!!

This week in first grade we are singing lots of fun songs.  Here is a photo of Mrs. Dailey's class singing Ode to a Marshmallow:
We pretended we were roasting marshmallows on a campfire.  And, when they were "toasted golden brown", we got to gobble them up!!

You can listen to Ode to a Marshmallow here.  (And buy it for $.99 if you want!)

Another fun song was called I Like Balloons!  Here is Mrs. Morgan's class having fun with their balloon!

You can listen to I Like Balloons here.  (And buy it for $.99 if you like.)

Pass the Shoe

Last week in music, First Grade discussed TEMPO.  We learned the terms Largo, Andante, Allegro, and Presto.  These are Italian words that describe the tempo of a song (how fast or slow).   We also began passing beanbags on the beat to a song that gets faster and faster!

This week we are singing Tony Chestnut at each of these tempos.  And, playing a passing game called Pass The Shoe.  This is a tough concept for a 6 year old!!  Everyone has to keep the beat, pass and pick up at the same time and in the same direction!!  Here are a few classes.  They did a terrific job and it was a ton of fun!!

Star Spangled Banner - Whitney Houston

In memory of one of the very BEST SINGERS of all time.

I get chills every time I watch this!!

I know many of the students at Clarksville Primary School don't know who Whitney Houston is.  But, she was a wonderful singer who inspired Mrs. Stahl!  She was popular (like Justin Beiber) when Mrs. Stahl was a little girl!

This is the very best National Anthem I've ever heard.

Who Will Be My Valentine?

This week in music, we are playing a fun Valentine's Day game called Who Will Be My Valentine?

Each student selects a heart piece from the box.  They can't let anyone see what picture is on.  When the music starts, they turn their card around and look for their "valentine" match!  They LOVE it.
